A simple 80m DC receiver
23. July 2010 Another dose of simple goodness! I recently built this little gem in ugly construction technology (directly soldering the components to an unetched PCB). I never built a DC before so, as I had NE602s in stock I thought this needs to be done!
To my amazement the sound quality is stunning! As the DC receiver only has a single mixing stage, not much quality is lost in the process..
Software Defined Radio
23. July 2010 As you will be aware, the idea of SDR (Software defined Radio) is to build a fairly simple RF frontend to directly convert RF into AF with minimal hardware and then feed the AF without much filtering into the input of a sound card for further processing and demodulation. I just completed my second SDR project and enjoy it very much.
Contest Calendar Widget
22. July 2010 Here is a little widget to keep you in the loop on upcoming contest events. It feeds off the RSS data delivered by Bruce Horns WA7BNM website and redirects there when clicking on any of the upcoming contests.
Keep in mind that Bruce as well offers the data in iCal format so you can just subscribe to it in iCal as well which might make sense if you are into a lot of contest activity. If you just need to see what's up in the next week, the widget is all you need. Just download the attached file, unzip and click on it.
Diplexer
22. July 2010 Not an overly complicated task but I built this little diplexer yesterday as I intend to get more into LEO (Low Earth Orbit Satellite) activities and plan to build something like an arrow antenna. Originally I planned to purchase one on eBay but was surprised that people pay more for them in an auction than brand new in the shop! How funny is that?
Remarkable 1975 technology
13. July 2010 I am just working backwards through some old issues of ham radio magazines and have reached 1975 now. I certainly remember 1975 but somehow think of it as the stone age. Surprisingly a lot of technical gadgets we have today have already been around in 1975.
