LCD Smartie with an Arduino
I still had a cut out aluminum drive bay cover into which I built one of the cheap blue 16x2 displays that I got from China so I felt this had to go into my recent server upgrade project.
Along with it came a recent Arduino UNO model which handles the USB connecton to the server. On the server itself I have the current version of LCD smartie running as a service.
The best part of it: Now there is an Arduino on board which can be programmed to handle all kinds of tasks :-) Currently it is fed via USB but I might switch that to permanent power from the PCs power supply so I could have the Arduino wake up the server or bounce it if a watchdog refresh fails.
